People occasionally ask where the name The Hedge Burner came from. The simple truth is that it made perfect sense to me at the time.
The hedges represented suburbia—the neatly trimmed life that many of us spend years building. The routines, the responsibilities, the school drop-offs, the grocery lists, and the endless cycle of trying to keep everything looking under control.
The fire represented how I felt.
I was freshly postpartum, exhausted, overwhelmed, and trying to figure out who I was outside of everyone else’s expectations. Life wasn’t actually on fire, but some days it certainly felt that way.
At the same time, I had a growing desire to write. Not just write anything, but write stories that kept women turning pages late into the night. The kind of books that make you miss your bedtime because you have to know what happens next.
Somewhere between motherhood, work, creative ideas, and a brain that never seems to stop generating new projects, The Hedge Burner was born.
What wasn’t born overnight, however, was the courage to move forward with it.
This website first came to life in January. It sat quietly for months while I questioned ideas, changed directions, overthought everything, and convinced myself I needed one more thing before I could begin. Here we are at the end of June, and both this site and I have finally found our way forward.
Maybe that’s the real lesson.
You don’t have to start when the timing is perfect. You don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t need a flawless plan, a polished website, or complete confidence.
You just need to begin.
So if you’re sitting on an idea, a dream, a business, a book, or a project you’ve been putting off, consider this your sign.
It’s never too late to get started, girl.
Welcome to The Hedge Burner.
Your friend in the hedges,
Morgan
